After what seemed like an eternity, the day to finally take off on our epic adventure has finally arrived! Luckily the prep work has been happening for a while behind the scenes, so the car, trailer and house was ready(ish) for our departure. Bit of an emotional morning saying goodbye to loved ones (Grandma and Grandpa), loved toys and the creature comforts that we’re leaving behind us.

So what’s the plan? 7 months on the road, doing a half lap of Australia (it’s really more like a 2/3 lap), with Sarah, myself, and our 2 kids, Isaac (aged 10) and Mia (aged 8). We’ll cover as much of Victoria, South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia as we can in the next 7 months (in our 4wd and camper trailer).

So day 1… pretty solid start, driving from Melbourne to Bendigo for lunch, checking out silo art at Nullawil, and then bunkering in at the Kaneira pub (a free camp, with a petting zoo and lovely publicans). Taught the kids how to play pool for the first time, enjoyed a beer or two, and a pretty good Parma, before tucking tired monkeys into bed for our first night under canvas.
Solid start to the trip.
